Chiara Mastroianni's resemblance to her famed father, Marcello Mastroianni, is uncanny. He was unquestionably Italy’s shining film star from the golden era of Italian Cinema. In this whimsical meta film, Chiara and her mother, Catherine Deneuve, the Grande Dame of French cinema, play themselves, clearly enjoying the comedic, perky premise.

CAST Chiara Mastroianni, Catherine Deneuve, Fabrice Luchini, Nicole Garcia, Melvil Poupaud, , Stefania Sandrelli

Set over a surreal summer, Chiara is a struggling actor living in her father’s shadow, haunted by her own resemblance to him. So, she decides to bring the image of Marcello back to life, dressing in the distinctive ‘Fellini period’ suit, gesturing like him and speaking only in Italian. Her film industry collaborators, family and friends all believe her whimsy will be temporary, but Chiara has other plans. It is a very original, unique and, at times, a moving tribute to Marcello. Set between Paris, Rome and seaside Formia it is a film that never forgets Marcello’s gift of lightness. I am sure Marcello Mastroianni, at the 100-year anniversary of his birth, is looking down and chuckling at the whimsical audaciousness of his daughter.

A work that entertains with a pleasure beyond just the merited celebration of Mastroianni.

Paola Cortellesi

Cortellesi debuted in the show business at the age of 13, as a singer for "Cacao meravigliao", the jingle of the popular RAI TV show "Indietro tutta!" by Renzo Arbore. At 19 she began studying as an actress at the Teatro Blu in Rome (the same theatre school that Kim Rossi Stuart, Gianmarco Tognazzi, Claudia Gerini, Stefania Rocca, and Claudio Santamaria, among others, have attended).
